An intermediate violin is the instrument a student grows into after a beginner outfit stops keeping up: a fully carved spruce top and maple back, ebony fittings, a properly fitted bridge and soundpost, and a voice with enough color and projection for youth orchestra, solo repertoire and auditions. Ours run from about $1,200 to $2,800 and come from Andreas Eastman, Scherl & Roth, Canzona, Juzek and our long-standing Romanian house brand, Octav Mureș.

Every violin on this page is individually inspected, adjusted and play-tested by Atelier's luthiers before it ships, and every one can be tried at home for 45 days. Not sure which is right? How to choose the right intermediate violin

Start with fit and playability. The correct size and a comfortable setup matter more than the name on the label. A well-fitted bridge, soundpost and strings should let the instrument respond cleanly without forcing the player.

Listen for growth, not just volume. Look for a clear response under the bow, enough projection for orchestra and auditions, and a wider range of tone colors than a beginner instrument.

Compare violin-only and outfit options carefully. An outfit generally includes a bow and case; violin-only listings are best for players who already own suitable accessories or want to choose them separately.
