Buying guide

Questions cellists ask before they choose

What's the difference between beginner, intermediate and advanced cellos?

Beginner cellos are built for first lessons and school programs, and most come as complete outfits with a bow and bag or case. Intermediate cellos are the step up, with finer, hand-carved tonewoods and more color and projection for youth orchestra and solo repertoire. Advanced cellos are for auditions, ensemble and solo work, where response and projection matter most.

What size cello do I need?

Cellos come in fractional sizes for younger players, and fit depends on height and arm length. Our sizing guide walks you through it. If the player is between sizes, call us before ordering and we'll help you choose.

How is a cello shipped, and what if it arrives damaged?

Your cello is packed by our workshop with particular care for the bridge and setup, and the shipment is fully insured. Cello shipping is a flat $79.95 to the continental United States; in-stock cellos typically ship within 3 business days, after setup.

Unpack and check the cello the day it arrives, and keep the box and all packing. If anything was damaged in shipping, contact us right away, the same day if you can, with photos of the cello, the box and the packing. Please don't tune it up or try to fix anything yourself; we take it from there, including the insurance claim.

If you find a defect, or we sent the wrong item, let us know as soon as you notice, and always within your 7-day window. When the issue is our responsibility, we repair, replace or exchange the cello and cover shipping both ways.

Can I return a cello?

Yes. Most cellos can be returned within 45 days of delivery. Cellos priced above $3,000 and antique instruments have a 7-day return window. Every product page shows the window that applies. Full terms, condition requirements and shipping deductions are in our Returns policy.

Can I pay over time?

Yes. Shop Pay Installments lets you split eligible purchases into monthly payments at checkout, subject to approval.
