How to choose viola rosin
Light or dark. Lighter, harder rosins give a smooth, clean grip with less dust and suit many players in warm or humid weather. Darker, softer rosins grip more strongly for a warmer, fuller sound, and many violists prefer them in cold, dry months.
Think about your strings. A viola's heavier strings often respond best to a little more grip than a violin's, which is why many violists choose a darker rosin or one made for viola, like Melos Viola Rosin in light or dark.
Step up for refinement. Pirastro Goldflex, Bernardel and Kaplan offer finer articulation and a more polished response for advancing players.
