How to choose the right intermediate viola
Start with fit and playability. The correct size and a comfortable setup matter more than the name on the label. A well-fitted bridge, soundpost and strings should let the instrument respond cleanly without forcing the player.
Listen to the C string. A good step-up viola should speak quickly on the lowest string, with a warm, focused sound that still carries in orchestra, rather than a tubby or muffled one. Look for more tone colors across all four strings than a beginner instrument offers.
Compare viola-only and outfit options carefully. An outfit generally includes a bow and case; viola-only listings are best for players who already own suitable accessories or want to choose them separately.
Every viola in this collection is individually inspected, adjusted and play-tested by Atelier's luthiers. If two models look close, our staff can help compare tone, size and configuration before you order.
