What to know before you step up

At this level you are buying a voice you will live with for years, and you can't hold it before it ships. Here is how to judge it, how it is set up, and exactly what happens from delivery through your 7-day window.

How do I know an advanced cello is a real step up?

Play it against the cello you have now. The difference should be obvious under your own bow: a warmer, rounder core, an upper register that sings rather than thins out, quicker response, and the projection to carry in an ensemble or audition room.

The Juzek Model 303 is made in Germany in the traditional Central European style, with attractive flame, well-seasoned tonewoods and a classic antiqued finish. It is a long-standing step-up choice in teaching studios and youth orchestras, and it continues to open up as technique improves.

How is it set up, and which strings does it have?

Our luthiers fit and adjust the bridge, soundpost, string height, nut and pegs, then play-test the cello before it ships, so it arrives ready to play rather than ready for a repair shop.

The Juzek 303 is strung with our most popular cello combination: Larsen A & D with Spirocore G & C, for clarity and warmth on the upper strings and depth and power below.

How is a cello shipped, and what if it arrives damaged?

Your cello is packed by our workshop with particular care for the bridge and setup, and the shipment is fully insured. Cello shipping is a flat $79.95 to the continental United States; in-stock cellos typically ship within 3 business days, after setup.

Unpack and check the cello the day it arrives, and keep the box and all packing. If anything was damaged in shipping, contact us right away, the same day if you can, with photos of the cello, the box and the packing. Please don't tune it up or try to fix anything yourself; we take it from there, including the insurance claim.

If you find a defect, or we sent the wrong item, let us know as soon as you notice, and always within your 7-day window. When the issue is our responsibility, we repair, replace or exchange the cello and cover shipping both ways.

What happens if the cello isn't right for me?

Because these cellos are priced above $3,000, they have a 7-day return window from delivery. Return the cello in like-new condition with everything it came with, and we refund the purchase price less our actual outbound shipping cost and the return label, if we provide one.

Setup changes made elsewhere, such as bridge, soundpost or peg work, make a cello ineligible unless we approved them in advance. If you ordered the wrong size or model, contact us within the same 7 days and we can exchange it, as long as it is in new, unused condition. Full terms are on our Returns page.

Does it come with a bow and case?

No. The Juzek 303 is sold as the cello only, in 4/4 size; the bow and case are sold separately. At this level that is a plus: you can choose the bow that draws out its full color and projection. Compare our wood cello bows and carbon fiber cello bows, and protect the investment with a hard cello case.

Can I pay over time?

Yes. Shop Pay Installments are available at checkout for eligible orders, so you can spread the cost over monthly payments, subject to approval.
