Advanced viola buying guide
How to choose an advanced or professional viola
Play it against what you have now. At this level the difference should be obvious under your own bow: a C string that speaks instantly, more colors at every dynamic, and a sound that carries in a hall rather than just sounding big under your ear.
Judge the instrument, not the label. Workshop origin, tonewood seasoning and setup tell you more than a name on the label. Body length and string length also matter more on viola than on violin, so make sure the size suits your hand and arm.
Budget for the bow. Advanced violas are sold viola only, and a better bow is often what draws out their full depth and projection. Our wood viola bows are a good place to start.
If you are weighing instruments, book a private buying consultation and an Atelier specialist will help you compare tone, response and fit before you order.
