Electric violin buying guide
How to choose an electric violin
Start with where you'll play. Silent violins are designed for quiet practice through headphones at home or on the road. Electric violins are built to plug into an amplifier, PA or effects for rehearsals and live performance, and many players use one instrument for both.
Decide on 4 or 5 strings. A 4-string feels exactly like your acoustic violin. A 5-string adds a low C below the G, giving you viola range for jazz, rock, fiddle and improvising, with a slightly wider neck to get used to.
Plan the rest of your rig. To play out loud you'll need an instrument cable and an amplifier or PA; for practice, a pair of headphones. Add a bow and case if you don't already have them.
Feel matters as much as sound. Every electric violin we sell is set up by our luthiers so the strings, bridge and playability feel natural under your hands. If you're unsure which model fits your playing, book a private buying consultation and we'll help you compare before you order.
