This Canzona maestro-level viola is a rare New Old Stock instrument—never previously owned and held exclusively within our shop at Atelier for Fine Stringed Instruments. Recently unboxed and professionally set up in our Greenwich workshop, this instrument is now fully realized and ready to perform.

Crafted in Romania approximately 25 years ago, the viola features exceptional, well-seasoned tonewoods that have matured naturally over time. The back is formed from highly flamed two-piece maple with deep, dramatic figure, while the top is carved from Carpathian spruce showcasing pronounced bear claw and an impressively tight, even grain structure.

The result is an instrument with both visual authority and tonal presence.

Tonally, this viola sings—with a warm, resonant core, quick response under the bow, and strong projection across all registers. The decades of aging allow for a more open, complex voice than typically found in newer instruments, offering depth, clarity, and refinement.

Our recent professional setup ensures optimal playability, balance, and tonal output—bringing out the full potential of the instrument from the first note.
