The Canzona Allegro Violin: value where it matters
Professional Setup. Student Price. Zero Compromises.
Many student violin outfits are packed with extras meant to look like added value: spare strings, white gloves, a bargain shoulder rest, a clip-on digital tuner. Most of them get replaced or forgotten within months, and their cost comes out of the one thing that matters most: the violin.
We put the value where it belongs. Every Canzona Allegro is a solid spruce and maple instrument with an ebony fingerboard, set up by hand in our Connecticut workshop so it plays right from the first lesson. It comes with what a student actually needs to start: a lightweight case with shoulder straps, a carbon graphite bow strung with genuine unbleached Mongolian horsehair, and a quality Atelier rosin.
Hand-Selected by Master Luthiers
Not every violin that arrives at Atelier earns its place in the Atelier offerings. Our luthiers personally evaluate each instrument for tonal quality, craftsmanship, and structural integrity before it receives a complete professional setup in our Connecticut workshop.
The Canzona Difference: Setup, Not Accessories
While competitors pack boxes with accessories you don't need, we invest in what students do need — an instrument that plays correctly from the first bow stroke. Every Canzona Allegro receives the same meticulous setup as instruments costing thousands more:
- Bridge hand-fitted and positioned for optimal tone
- Soundpost adjusted for projection and warmth
- Fingerboard dressed and polished
- String height optimized for easy playability
- Pegs fitted, treated, and tested
- Fine tuners properly installed
- Complete play-testing by our luthiers
The Right Tool for Your Student
Your student's teacher will recommend the shoulder rest and accessories that work best for their individual playing style and comfort. Rather than fill the case with generic accessories that may not be right, we give you a performance-ready instrument and let you choose what your student actually needs.

Questions from parents
Before you buy
Will my child's teacher approve of this violin?
It is built to the standard teachers look for in a first violin: a solid spruce top and solid maple back, a genuine ebony fingerboard and pegs, a hand-fitted bridge and D'Addario Prelude strings. Our luthiers set up and play-test every Allegro in our Cos Cob workshop before it ships, so the string height and bridge are right from the first lesson.
What size does my child need?
Violin size is chosen by arm length, not age. Our sizing guide shows how to measure at home. The Allegro comes in every size from 1/16 to full size (4/4), including 1/10. If your child is between sizes, call us at 203.661.9500 before ordering and we'll help you choose.
Is it good enough for a first recital?
Yes. The Allegro is made for the first years of lessons, school orchestra and first recitals. When a student moves into youth orchestra or more advanced repertoire, that is usually the time to step up to an intermediate violin.
What happens when they outgrow it?
Moving up a fractional size carries a $65 exchange fee. When it's time for a higher-level violin, our trade-up program can apply up to 100% of your original Atelier purchase price after a luthier evaluation.
Is it ready to play when it arrives?
Yes. It arrives set up, with the case and bow included. The strings may need a quick retune after travel.
Can I return it?
Yes. Instruments are covered by our 45-day return window from delivery, subject to the condition requirements in our returns policy.
