Pirastro Passione Violin G String – Gut Core, Silver Wound

The Pirastro Passione Violin G String delivers the warmth, depth and tonal complexity associated with traditional gut strings while offering greater tuning stability and a considerably shorter playing-in period.

Its sheep-gut core is manufactured, wound and polished by hand, then finished with a silver winding. The resulting sound is full, rounded and warm, with rich overtones, excellent clarity and powerful projection.

The Passione G responds easily throughout the dynamic range and offers exceptional tonal flexibility. It can produce a large, commanding sound while retaining the ability to play with warmth, softness and nuance.

Choosing a Gauge

The Passione G string is offered in five gauges so violinists can select the tension, resistance and tonal character that best suits their instrument.

A thicker gauge generally provides greater tension, increased resistance and a fuller, more powerful sound. A thinner gauge typically offers a brighter character and a lighter response without necessarily sacrificing projection.

The 16½ gauge is the medium G string included in the standard Pirastro Passione violin set.

Installation Note

The colored silk winding at the peg end of the Passione G string is intentionally longer than the winding used on the A and D strings. This construction helps protect the G string from breaking inside the pegbox.

During the first few days of use, the gut core will gradually stretch. As the string settles, the silk winding should move away from the nut and into its intended position.
