Pirastro Passione Violin D String – Gut Core, Silver Wound

The Pirastro Passione Violin D String combines the warmth and tonal complexity of a traditional gut string with greater tuning stability and a significantly shorter playing-in period.

Its sheep-gut core is manufactured, wound and polished by hand, then finished with a silver winding. The Passione D produces a full, rounded and warm core sound enriched by brilliant overtones, excellent clarity and strong projection.

With its easy response and broad dynamic range, this string can produce a large, powerful tone as readily as a gentle and intimate sound. Five available gauges allow violinists to select the tension, resistance and tonal character that best complements their instrument.

Choosing a Gauge

A thicker Passione D string generally provides greater tension, increased resistance and a fuller, more powerful sound.

A thinner gauge typically offers a brighter tonal character and a lighter response without necessarily sacrificing strength or projection.

The 13½ gauge is the medium D string supplied in the standard Pirastro Passione violin set.
