Kaplan Solo Bass String Set

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

The D'Addario Kaplan Solo double bass string set is designed specifically for bassists performing at solo pitch (one whole step higher than orchestral tuning), delivering exceptional projection, clarity, and tonal focus needed when the bass takes center stage.

Built on D'Addario's stranded steel core, with steel wires braided into a flexible cable, Kaplan Solo strings blend strength and flexibility. They deliver the rich tone and superb bow response of Kaplan orchestral strings, with the extra projection and clarity needed for solo playing.

The medium tension design balances ease of playability with robust projection, allowing soloists to cut through ensemble textures without fighting against overly stiff strings. Each string produces clear articulation under the bow with minimal unwanted overtones, while pizzicato passages respond with immediate attack and sustained resonance.

Kaplan Solo strings are particularly favored by bassists performing classical solo repertoire, chamber music where the bass carries melodic lines, and jazz soloists who need the instrument to sing at higher pitch without sacrificing tonal complexity. The set's carefully calibrated tension across all four strings ensures even response and balanced tone from the lowest E to the highest notes on the G string.

Unlike standard orchestral strings forced into solo tuning, Kaplan Solo strings are purpose-built for this pitch range, meaning proper string gauge and tension optimization that prevents excessive stress on the instrument while maintaining ideal playability and sound quality.
