Questions players ask before they choose
How often should I change my strings?
It depends on how much you play. Many teachers suggest a new set every six to twelve months for regular players, and sooner if strings sound dull, won't stay in tune or show unraveling.
Synthetic, steel or gut core?
Synthetic-core strings such as Dominant and Helicore are the most popular choice, combining warmth with stable tuning. Steel-core strings are bright, durable and quick to respond. Gut strings offer a complex, traditional sound but need more frequent tuning.
What size strings do I need?
Strings are sized to match the instrument: a 1/2 violin needs 1/2 violin strings. Viola strings are matched to scale length or body size. Our sizing guide can help.
